How We Serve

At CHAMP, we foster an encouraging environment where creativity is cultivated, and mistakes aren’t penalized. Where kids play without fear or anxiety about league records and personal statistics.

Open-Gym
Boys and Girls ages 8 to 14 participate in open-gym pick-up games at local facilities in the Coachella Valley. Each facility has gym monitors who will help to ensure games run smoothly and court rules are adhered to.

Whenever possible we will do our best to ensure kids are grouped by age and grade for the safety of all participants involved.

Attending Games
As part of the CHAMP Program, we attend local high school and junior college basketball games. More than just the excitement of watching the game, we believe game attendance is a great way to build comradery. Through game attendance the kids begin to feel connected to the local schools and local talent, and the schools appreciate the support.

Furthermore, as kids graduate from the CHAMP program, they attend local high schools. We continue to support CHAMP graduates on their journey through high school basketball and beyond by attending and rooting for them at their games.

Basketball Camps
Going to Camp is a great experience for kids. In some cases, it’s their first time being away from home for an extended period of time. It’s a time where they get to meet new people, experience new things and be in an environment that is built to cater to their age group. We help kids go to camp. As part of our mission, we send kids to camps whether local or outside of the Coachella Valley where they learn about basketball, grow, and mature in the game, and in life.

Mentorship
The ages of 8 to 14 are very formative years for kids, and the game of basketball affords us a precious opportunity to speak to and mentor them. We dedicate a portion of the time we have with them to encourage, teach, and advise them about not just basketball, but how to navigate life. As they deal with all of the challenges that life may throw at them, we help equip them with the life skills to handle those challenges. Many of the kids in the CHAMP program won’t make it as a professional basketball player, but they will be professionals in one industry or another.

We will be gathering together as a group once a month for professionally-led lunch & learn sessions led by area professionals throughout the Coachella Valley. These community leaders will come and speak to the kids about their business, their industry, and their life experiences. Throughout the course of the year, kids will be introduced to a variety of industries and areas of expertise that they may not otherwise learn about outside of the CHAMP program. Kids will learn firsthand what it takes to be an Investment Banker, how to operate and manage a Golf Course, the ins-and-outs of running an automotive dealership, what it’s like to perform life-saving surgery, and more.

The goal of the lunch & learn sessions is to give kids exposure at an early age to various pathways to success and to allow them to see that hard work and dedication make the impossible possible.

We also encourage CHAMP graduates to volunteer their time as Gym Monitors, Event Chaperones, and more, as a way for them to remain connected to the program and to mentor the younger generation that is coming up after them.
